Project Overview

WaltzUAway is passionate about putting what had been learnt in the AI practitioner course into good use. Our vision is to use AI to provide you a convenient and ease of use service to get connected with someone you might like. WaltzUAway hopes that through our platform, you will manage to understand and reason what is being said, learn from each other while interacting in order to build a meaningful long lasting relationship.

Problem Statement

  • Lack of integration: online dating users have to install the apps instead of having any direct integration into the messaging and web platform that they use on a daily basis.
  • No one-stop integrated services: most of the online dating platforms do not provide one-stop integrated services to facilitate communication.
  • Lack of enriched interaction and responses: the app's communication is monotonous.

Possible Solutions

Use Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing capabilities in Watson assistant to understand and reason what is being said, learn from each other while interacting in order to build a meaningful long lasting relationship among the customers. Create an integration and integrated one-stop service chatbot in order to provide convenient and ease of use dating services to the users. Provide opportunities for singles to meet more qualified matches through a user-friendly dating chatbot, singles could either choose to pursue single or group dates.

User Research

Qualitative and Quantitative Research has been conducted to understand what is their expectation.

Qualitative Research (1 to 1 Interview)

The objectives of conducting user research were to understand the dating woes of singles in Singapore and determine dating platform to solve the problem. I conducted interviews with 5 single user who have been using dating platform for the past few years and are seeking serious relationships.

  • How old are you?
  • Are you a gentleman or a decent lady?
  • Have you ever used a dating platform for chatbots or apps?
  • What drives you to use a dating platform?
  • Is texting necessary before meeting someone from a dating platform?
  • How do you rate your texting skills from 1 to 5?
  • How deep do you look in a matching profile?
  • What are the primary challenges you face in finding a potential match on a dating platform?
  • What are the most important features or tools for users attempting to find a potential match on a dating platform?

Quantitative Research (Survey)

I did an online survey by using Google Form to gather the data. This is easy for me to understand the user pattern of what they are looking for. The total data of 30 participants being collected.

  • How old are you? Marital status?
  • Are you a gentleman or a decent lady?
  • What do you think about online dating?
  • When was the last time you went on a date?
  • How do you rate your texting skills from 1 to 5?
  • What are the features on a dating app you use that you dislike most? Why?
  • What are the primary challenges you face in finding a potential match on a dating platform?

Insight

  • Wide pool of dating apps out there yet there doesn't seem to be an app which only caters to singles seeking serious relationships.
  • There should be a bigger variety of matches on dating apps to prevent the same match from popping up twice on a person’s screen.
  • For some singles who are averse to awkward first dates, they have shared that they are open to going on double or group dates.
  • Both males and females scored high on the importance of attraction, profession and similar interests when choosing a partner.
  • The description on the profile is really important as well. Doesn't like lack of personal information, wants to have a deeper understanding of what people actually like, motivations, and hobbies.

Pain Point

  • Lack of texting skills: frustration by users who lack texting articulation skills, due to interactions on dating platform built entirely on texting skills.
  • Fear of rejection: fear of rejection eliminates the chance that one of the individuals will take a step and offer to meet for a date.
  • Join without purpose: no commitment, matching without purpose is very common, leading to a low match-to-date conversion rate.
  • Date’s logistics: difficulty determining specific place and time.

Define

Persona

Using the results of the survey and interview, two persona that embody the traits of the target audience that can represent our main users. This helps me understand their primary goal and frustration.

PET Strategy

Persuasion, emotion and trust are critical factors to increased conversion. There are PET tools have been implemented to motivate people to make decisions that lead to conversion.

Suggestions

Add navigation options, this will lead for more easy to navigate our services.

Testing

Usability Testing

I did usability testing to test how user-friendly the chatbot was and whether it allowed users to complete their goals in an effective and efficient manner.

At the same time, I also sought feedback on the appearance and design of the chatbot. Based on the feedback provided, this gave me an opportunity to assess what other features could be included to improve the app and enhance the user experience.

Icebreaker Time

Challenge 1: Member and non-member able to access different services.

Solution: Allow to join members under Icebreaker Time, non-member are only able to access our Pro Tips. This help look for serious partner and build a meaningful long lasting relationship.

Pro Tips

Challenge 2: Recommended more Pro Tips.

Solution: Add more activities for our Pro Tips, to avoid the dating difficulty determining specific place and time.

Future Enhancement

Identify the goals that provide an initial scope projected for the MVP and future builds that is meaningful to the users:

Learning

The artificial intelligence course provided a good overview of the AI, machine learning and deep learning concepts. With the projects I were able to get more insights into the Natural Language understanding and apply it to develop the chatbot that could understand, reason and learn based on the interactions. Good planning of the dialog flow is the key before actually developing the bot. Building an interactive and responsive bot is time consuming, work on the chatbot was fascinating. Although the dating app market is flooded with loads of apps that look the same, but Waltzbot brings something different to the table. It allows people to bridge the technological gap and test their connections in real life, from understanding the users’ real needs to implementing it in an attractive and thoughtful interface.
